It is a distinct privilege to represent the people of Montgomery County in the Texas Legislature. Thank you for the trust and confidence you have placed in my abilities to fight on your behalf in Austin.
The last session was a tremendous success for Montgomery County. We passed an agenda that included the largest property tax cut in Texas history as well as a freeze on property tax rates for seniors. We passed “Jessica’s Law” to protect our children from sexual predators, the “castle doctrine” so you can protect yourself in your home and several other pieces of legislation dealing with regional water planning and economic development.
I also authored a bill that doubled the “small business tax” exemption and will save small businesses in Montgomery County thousands of dollars each year. The Business Owners and Managers Association of Texas honored me with the “Legislator of the Year” award from my work on “small business tax” exemptions and Texans for Fiscal Responsibility named me a “taxpayer hero.” I was thankful for the pro-taxpayer recognition.
I was also personally honored to be one of only two lawmakers to be named vice-chairman of two committees, the Natural Recourses Committee and the Local Ways and Means Committee.
Looking forward, there is still so much we need to accomplish for the people of Texas. I promise to you that I’m committed to fighting hard for property tax appraisal reform, education reform, and a real sustained effort to secure our border. You can count on me to battle everyday to find solutions to our mobility problems so we can keep Montgomery County moving in the right direction.
